Uganda Update - July 2011

Feeding Center and Orphanage
Jinja, Uganda

We are nearing completion of our first building on our Nile River property in Jinja, Africa. This multi-purpose structrue will house orphans and at risk children until family style cottages are built.

Then we'll be able to use this multi-purpose structure to clean house our people on mission trips, train area pastors, minister to the local village, house a medical clinic and a church start.

"Even half way around the world, even though things are so completely different than in America, the people in Uganda have the same needs, the same desires and the same desperate need for a savior! I have been on several other mission trips, which were wonderful trips, but this last trip to Uganda has truly changed my life forever.  I fell in love with the people!  They have nothing, but will give you what they have.  They are beautiful people.  I guess that is what it is like to see through God's eyes. God used me in a way I never thought I could be used.  He challenged me and stretched me beyond measure.  I would go back today if that is what God would have me do."

~ Marci Phillips, MET member and Uganda mission volunteer

"We went way out in the "bush" directly to the small villages.  These beautiful people are still living in mud huts with no running water or electricity.  We were able to love on the widows and orphans and share the love of Christ with them.  They couldn't believe that we would come so far to share about this God and the love He has for them.  I had the opportunity to witness to a witchdoctor and his family.  I received report last month that he has actually gone to church once or twice.  Now that is God working in a powerful way, that only God can."

~ Katherine Hines, Uganda mission volunteer

Hines Ugandan Ministries, Inc., works in child sponsorship with 200 children and youth, some widows outreach – mostly teaching the word of the Lord.  Children are helped to go to school, receive medical care, etc.  They have started a small orphanage with plans of building a second small medical clinic (one was turned over to the nationals), a Christian primary school, some orphan housing with African house mothers and a vocational school.  They work together with the local church in Uganda for the Presbyterian.  They currently have an AWANA Club with an average of 400-600 children, depending on whether kids are in school or at home. Three Bible studies are taught in the area every week – one for youth, one for women and one as a home Bible study.  Their immediate plans, however, are to build a Ministry Outreach Center, which includes a youth center.
